Rich James: Positivity through creativity: Creating your own path to self-enlightenment
As a writer, teacher, academic and speaker, I have been called everything from a “paragon of positivity” to a “pragmatic philanthropist”; true, I want to help you to change your own life and hence our wider human family for the better. I do this through practical, achievable advice and techniques but … we’ll need to do this together. How? Well, it isn’t as hard as it sounds! I offer my readers and attendees at my speaking seminars not only anecdotes about how I achieved personal self-enlightenment, but I also show people how they can do the same in their own lives. I want to do the same for you – starting here, now, today. My personal and professional aim, then – my overriding goal and commitment to you – is through my work to allow everyone reading this to become the “light” in “enlightenment”, illuminating those qualities in others – friends, colleagues and family – in order to help them to achieve the same. Stacey James Wheeler: Proud StepDad & Author of “The Stepdad’s Guide: Resolving Family Conflict”
After marrying a single mom, Stacey James Wheeler noticed there were some big differences in the parenting challenges stepdads face. Stress was higher and the cause wasn’t always obvious. The information he was able to find showed most marriages to single moms fail. He didn’t want his relationship to meet the same fate. Wheeler went to work reading everything he could find on the topic of stepdads and blended families. What started as a keen interest became a multi-year study, which brought to light what he calls “the invisible enemy” in blended family relationships. His discovery has since helped thousands of stepdads. Wheeler has authored numerous research papers & articles. His books include:
- The Stepdad’s Guide: Resolving Family Conflict (author)
- Dad’s Behaving DADLY (contributing writer)
- Stepdad 101 –What to Know Before You Marry a Single Mom (releasing in 2015)

Alyson Flaker: Survivor of a Malignant Brain Tumor ~ Now Serves Others as an Outstanding Dietitian!
I graduated as the Valedictorian of Hawthorne High School in 2006 and went on to Cornell University to complete an undergraduate curriculum in nutrition and dietetics. Shortly after graduating and starting my career as a dietitian, I was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in September of 2012 after developing flu like symptoms. A trip to the Emergency Department at Hackensack and an MRI led to this incidental but “lucky” finding. After my diagnosis, my great team of doctors and nurses, including a Neuro-Oncologist (Dr. Samuel Goldlust), Neurosurgeon (Dr. George Kaptain), and an Advanced Practice Nurse (Stacey McArdle) at the Brain and Spine Institute at the John Theurer Cancer Center, really helped get me through the ups and downs of coping with this overwhelming diagnosis, preparing for and recovering from surgery, and getting through the treatments post-surgery. I was very fortunate that I had very minimal side effects from chemotherapy – no hair loss, minimal nausea. Today, I am sharing my journey because I’m hoping my experiences with cancer can help others facing their own intimidating obstacles. While I can’t say that having a brain tumor was a blessing; however, it certainly helped shape my perspective on life and hopefully has helped me become a more patient, understanding person today.
Billy Turner: A Devoted Family Man Who Explores Other Mysteries In His Novel “A Murder in our Midst: Compelling Murder Mystery Questions Myths Surrounding Racial Division”
William (“Billy”) Turner spent his formative years in New England. He was educated in the private, parochial school system, and is presently retired from State service (State of California), as a supervisor. He has one son (Ontonio), and three grandchildren. His daughter-in-law, Bridgette, is a practicing pediatrician. William had aspired–so long ago–to be a priest, but felt at the time he had not been exposed enough to life to walk away and close the monastery door. His subsequent exposure to life sullied him beyond any aspiration to the priesthood. William now lives in Quartz Hill, California, spending much of his time doing penance, reflecting on his countless errors in judgment. William’s penchant for writing mysteries stems from his exposure to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories and those of Agatha Christie. His mentor was Sister Agnes Bernard–his high school English teacher. Bob Weinstein: Journalist, Columnist and Author
Over my 40-plus-year career as a journalist, columnist and author, my goal has been to hone my craft and find a writing niche I loved. I was privileged to write a weekly feature, “Making a Difference,” which I created and published in the Los Angeles Times. My recent book SO WHAT IF I’M 65 focuses on baby boomers and what for many wasn’t part of their life plan: aging. More than 75 percent of baby boomers have little choice but to work as long as they can because they failed to sock away enough money. SO WHAT IF I’M 65: BLOG www.sowhatifim65.tumblr.com
