~ 2014 Unsung Hero: ZELDA ROSENBERG ~ Serving New York Children as a FOSTER GRANDPARENT!

Zelda Rosenberg - ORIG -242 Picture

I, Zelda Rosenberg, moved to Rockland County 1992 and in 1993 moved to Esther Gitlow Towers, a senior citizen high-rise where I still reside. At a meeting in our building I heard about the Foster Grandparent Program. I’ve happily been a Foster Grandparent ever since. I currently worked with up to four 3 year olds per school term. I give the children one-to-one help with subjects they’re having trouble with. The teacher advises who needs this help and what help is needed – such as recognizing letters, numbers, colors and counting, or reading to them.

It is wonderful to see the progress these children make. When I remember their problems in September and October and now in April, May and June I can see the progress and the confidence of the child. I can’t express the feeling I receive and I’m so happy for them.

“I wish all seniors would join the Foster Grandparent Program of Rockland County as they would also experience the joy of helping children in the schools!”
